HAFF recently said a heartfelt goodbye to Dr. Patricia Lyon, the veterinarian seconded to HAFF by Christian Veterinary Missions. After four incredible years of service, Patricia is preparing for her next assignment in Rwanda, where ongoing instability won’t require as much travel back to the U.S. While we are excited for what lies ahead for her, she leaves behind a tremendous legacy here.During her time with HAFF, Patricia: • Served 18 local communities • Led 52 deworming clinics • Treated over 7,000 animals • Provided female goats and goat care training to 55 individuals • Taught veterinary agent classesIn addition to her veterinary work, Patricia faithfully supported HAFF through accounting, the IPB lending library, and the eyeglass clinic - always with a cheerful spirit and a servant’s heart. Her willingness to come alongside others and serve wherever needed will be deeply missed. As Patricia steps into this new chapter, we ask that you join us in praying fervently for HAFF. Please pray that God will provide additional missionaries to serve alongside the Wilsons, as they are seeking to transition some of their responsibilities.Thank you, Patricia, for your dedication, compassion, and lasting impact. You will always be part of the HAFF family. 💛

Tuesday Godly Women Class The Godly woman class recently enjoyed making a cake. In our area, cakes finish off a special meal like after weddings and graduations. Often the piece of cake is wrapped in a napkin and intended to be taken home. It can be frosted or not, and is heavy and moist, more like an American pound cake. It is often flavored with both dark and light vanilla.
Young Leaders Retreat and Ocean TripThe Young Leaders for God class had their annual Saturday retreat at HAFF studying the good and bad kings of the Old Testament. After a break of several years, this year we were again able to send them to the beach followed by an elegant restaurant meal of fish. Most have never been to the beach or eaten in a restaurant. While this is a treasured memory, past students have often been more thankful for the spiritual growth they made during the 8 months of class.
God’s Amazing Grace in Crisis — a short, powerful reflection from David Selvey, DMin. Dear friends, I’m reaching out with a special and time-sensitive need.A Haitian pastoral intern who graduated from HAFF and is a seminary student hoping to return to Haiti is facing an urgent transportation challenge. He relies on doing DoorDash to provide for his wife and child, and without a reliable car, he can’t continue that work.Ideally, we’re hoping someone might be willing to donate a vehicle or make one available at a very low cost. As an immediate, short-term solution, even a loaner car would be a huge help while we work toward something more permanent. If you think you might be able to help in any way—or if you know someone who could—please let me know by reaching out with Messenger or email info at haff.org.Thank you for considering this and for always being willing to care for people in practical ways.Gratefully, David Selvey
We have added some new needs to our Amazon list. Check it out and purchase something to help our staff in Haiti!
Yesterday (February 2, 2026) was a miserable day in the low 60's! No sun, with a bit of mist and a small breeze. Most students don't have sweatshirts like these two. One student went home to get a blanket. but many people have no blankets, especially refugees who lost everything . Last night it was 58! No sun soon means no solar power, no internet and no water without using our gas generators. Please pray for all to lean on God's provision during these cold and hungry days, without enough precipitation to fill our wells. Please pray for HAFF to share the true Bread and Living Water of Christ.
I’m excited to share that the HAFF Gear online store is officially open! It’s a great chance to grab something for yourself and maybe even check off a few Christmas gifts early! Thanks for standing with HAFF. Your support truly makes a difference.
New Sign 8 November 2025!A very patient donor gifted with graphic arts talent helped us design this new sign for HAFF using our colorful official HAFF logo. Anyone interested in helping provide smaller vinyl banners with Bible verses for our IPB secondary school classes please let us know. [Top photo is of the new sign and below it the old sign.]
Dr. Patricia Lyon, our veterinarian missionary, started a student lending library at IPB last year which lets students take books home. Nothing like it exists in the communities around us. We now have 105 students, or about a third of our student body who have checked out at least one book. They have been very faithful about returning them.
This summer our 43 Philo students took their final national high school exam after sharing their third semester classes with 21 other refugee students from Mirebalais. We thank God that despite these added stresses, 39 of our students (91%) passed and the other 4 have another chance to retest on the subjects that they failed. We are also thankful that many refugee students passed their exams through the Department of the Center.
2025-10-2 School Started Yesterday ThursdayIPB (Insitut Pratique de Bohoc) started school yesterday and continued today. Tomorrow, we have only a parents’ meeting. Last June had about 500 students due to the influx of refugees who would lose their whole year if they lost the final trimester. This year We have 340 students with class sizes around 35 to 40 but have still included high functioning refugee students.
2025-9-30 Mirebalais violence anniversary TuesdayToday, marks the 6-month date of the violent gang take-over of the strategic town of Mirebalais (90 minutes south of HAFF) freeing 500 prisoners and sending 50,000 people fleeing for their lives. Gangs burned over 200 homes, destroyed businesses, and shut down a major international hospital as they seek to control access to the Dominican Republic border to bring in illegal arms. Please pray for all these refugees and their host communities to find peace and hope in Christ.
A month ago IPB gave entrance tests to 93 7th graders from the 25 or so elementary schools that feed into HAFF. Those who passed plus a few students that failed IPB’s 7th grade last year due to illness or trauma, will make up our 80 new 7th graders, 40 each in 7A and 7B. This year all grades will have smaller classes, with higher performing students. Please pray for a great first day of school this Wednesday, October 1.
Congratulations to the 30 out of 31 IPB students (97%) who passed their 9th grade national exam allowing them to continue on into high school. We thank God for the many answered prayers of parents and students who were emotionally traumatized during their last semester as over 1000 refugees joined our community fleeing gang violence from the city of Mirebalais just 90 minutes south of HAFF.
We are so sorry not to have posted much on Facebook over the summer but the times have been poignantly busy as we reached out to the many refugees around us while also moving all our offices up to our main administrative building. All branches of our staff have worked overtime and outside their stated tasks in a flexible and compassionate unity truly showing Christ’s love in word and deed.
🙏 Thank You for 7 Amazing Years of Support! 🙏This week, our 43 Philo (13th grade) students are taking their national exams—the final step before high school graduation. Your prayers, encouragement, and support over the years have helped bring them to this point! Please join us in praying that they will succeed and step confidently into the next chapter of their lives. Also lift up the 21 additional students who studied with them this trimester—many of whom are refugees and will be taking their exams in a different department of Haiti. Their journey has not been easy, but their determination is inspiring. To every family member, community leader, donor, and to the students themselves who poured hours into studying: Thank you. Your sacrifice matters.✨ To God be the glory—now and always. ✨#PrayForHaiti #Philo2025 #EducationMatters #FaithInAction #GratitudeInAction
The Heartland of Haiti is under siege! As gangs escalate their hold on Mirebalais, learn how changes affect HAFF the local health care. Learn how you can more specifically pray for our people in Haiti. Read more: https://wix.to/1SmhzPz #Haiti #Mirebalais #SocialJustice
Several people have asked about the most immediate needs facing our Haitian employees, students, and other people who are a part of HAFF in Haiti. This is an ever-moving target as the most basic life necessities are in flux from day to day. The best way you can help our people is by giving to the HAFF General Fund. That way, we can use these contributions for whatever the greatest need is at the time. Thank you for your prayers and gifts during this tumultuous time for our Haitian brothers and sisters in Christ! You can give here: https://secure.qgiv.com/for/haitianamericanfriendshipfoundation
Mirebalais, a city in central Haiti less than two hours drive from HAFF, has recently experienced significant security challenges due to gang violence. On Monday, April 1, 2025, heavily armed gangs attacked the city, leading to the release of over 500 inmates from the local prison. This assault caused hundreds of residents to flee under heavy gunfire, heightening concerns about public safety in the region. More than 60,000 people fled from their homes in a single month. An estimated 1,000 have ended up in our community. Our staff now have as many as 13 additional people living in their homes. Our school has taken in nearly 200 additional students to try to meet needs. There are no jobs. I hope many of you will help us feed these additional "guests."
In recent weeks, the gangs moved northward to Mirebalais which is about 1.5 hours from our campus. Because of the gangs movement, even more displaced people have moved northward to places like Pignon and Bohoc where HAFF is. Many of our Haitian employees, our brothers and sisters in Christ, are now housing family members who have been displaced. Please pray for safety, security, and provision! Also, pray for Missionary Flights International (MFI) as they remain our safe way in and out of the country.#HAFFHaiti

A highlight from our most recent team of visitors was our Pastor's Conference! Many area pastors and their wives came for breakfast and then half a day of biblical marriage training led by HAFF director, David Selvey, and Pastor Josh Pyper. What a privilege it was to meet these men and women dedicated to sharing the gospel and making disciples on the central plains of Haiti. Dr. Selvey and Pastor Pyper were both energized after half a day teaching, worshipping, and praying with these brothers and sisters in Christ! We celebrate that Jesus unites us in one purpose that transcends all other barriers! We know God will do great things from this conference! #HAFFHaiti #HAFF #PastorsConference #visitingteam
In our Godly Women class, we had to delight of Michelle, a member of our most recent visiting team, coming to our godly women class. The women showed their projects they are working on and sang together. Then, we asked Michelle to share her story of domestic abuse in her marriage and how she and her son got away. She told about the sovereignty and protection of God. Many young, single women attend the Godly Women class, and they were able to learn signs to watch for from the men they consider marrying to know if the men are loving or might be abusers. A palpable connection between the women was present, even with a language barrier, as they all realized that despite culture and geography, we all have trials and tribulations, and we all need God to rescue us. What a touching and beautiful class it was! #HAFFHaiti #HAFF #GodlyWomen #Visitingteam
A team from Indiana and Michigan arrived in Haiti yesterday morning! So far, they got to know several students in English conversation class, put up insulation in one of the houses, went to the market in Pignon, attended morning prayers and singing with students, and toured the MAF (Missionary Alliance Fellowship) campus not far from HAFF.The team has said repeatedly how beautiful both the country and people are and how they are learning so much!
Lunches in Haiti are a bit different than what we might be used to! The system is unique, with some students bringing their own containers while others use the school’s containers. Despite the differences, our main goal remains the same: to feed as many students as possible each day.We are incredibly thankful for each and every one of these students and for your continued support in making this possible. Your generosity helps us nourish both their bodies and their spirits as we teach them important earthly things and even more important eternal things.Thank you for being a part of this mission!#HAFFHaiti #IPB #schoollunches #KingdomWork
We have some exciting news to share about the school buildings at HAFF! Built over 40 years ago, the wear and tear of time has certainly taken its toll both inside and out. While we've been able to repaint a few rooms, so much more work has been needed. Thanks to your incredible generosity, we received 22 five-gallon buckets of high-quality indoor-outdoor paint! You can just imagine our joy this paint has given us! Smiles everywhere! A team of Americans is coming in February to help paint some of the rooms we've recently re-stuccoed, while other donors have provided the funds to re-stucco the outer walls as well.We are so grateful for the opportunity to give these buildings a much-needed facelift, and we pray that it will not only enhance the space but also lift the hearts of those who learn and serve within these walls. We want our hearts to constantly be lifted to the face of God our Father.#HAFFHaiti #IPB #KingdomWorkThank you for being a part of this transformation! We will have additional updates soon!
Every year, churches in Indiana generously send Christmas bags to HAFF and various other Haiti missions. This year, due to some delays, the bags traveled by ship and only recently cleared customs in Cap Haitian, which has better security at the northern port.We are so grateful to God that, in the midst of the ongoing challenges and suffering in Haiti, our staff was able to share this special excitement with their families. Your continued support makes this possible, and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for being part of this mission. #HAFFHaiti #KingdomWork
We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to each and every one of you who supported HAFF in 2024. Our phone cameras can’t capture all the stars we see at night on the HAFF campus because there are no other lights. However, this twilight photo shows Dr. Patricia’s cozy house under the moon and a first star. The grandeur of nature reminds us that God is still in control and still blesses Haiti with many moments of peace and beauty despite violence and poverty. #HAFF #Haiti #Kingdomwork
Meet Richdson, one of our night guards! He and our other guards dress pretty warmly during the months of December and January when temperatures get down as low as 58 degrees at night. That might not seem cold to you, but it's cold for us in Haiti! No one has heaters, and houses with open crevices are especially cold when there are night breezes. Please pray for the many young people who sleep on the floor without sufficient blankets. Happily we see many more staff and students with sweatshirts, sweaters and jackets than 20 years ago! #HAFF #Haiti #Kingdomwork
The first day of the new trimester at our secondary school, IPB, was today. While teachers have had lots of tests to correct, students have been off since the end of first trimester exams – December 12th or earlier. Haitian families make great sacrifices to put children in school, including regularly missing meals. Please pray for students to be appreciative of those sacrifices and to be spurred on by the results of their first trimester grades to be more serious both in school and when studying at home. #HAFF #Haiti #IPB #Schoollife #Kingdomwork
The Eyeglass Clinic is back in full swing! I (Dr. Patricia Lyon) along with the help of my translator, Jocelyn, opened the weekly Eyeglass Clinic once again now that I'm back in Haiti. Thank you for all who have donated reading glasses! One woman brought a eyeglass prescription, and we were able to closely match her prescription with bifocal glasses thanks to your generous gift. A second woman was excited to be able to read her Bible better now with reading glasses. It's a good start to 2026! #HAFF #Haiti #EyeglassClinic #KingdomWork
This year has been one for the books at IPB, our secondary school. By mid-December, we had 415 students compared to last year's 361. This growth was unanticipated, but we are ready to embrace where God has led us.Just two years ago, we had only 36 students in each 7th grade class. Now, we have 72 students in each section! This is 100% growth. This huge growth in the student body... Check out our new blog post! https://www.haff.org/post/a-school-grows
This year, will you and your family or church commit to praying for one of our students at IPB? They face so many hurdles and challenges, and in spite of these, they persevere. Will you pray for their education, future opportunities, immediate provisions, and salvation or spiritual growth? If you will commit to praying, you can comment or private message, and we will give you the name of a student who will be yours for 2025!#HAFF #Hait #IPB #schoollife #Kingdomwork
During this last week before school starts, several teachers continue to work on correcting final tests from the first trimester so that report cards can be given out soon. Please pray for a good start to the second semester and pray for special grace for the 7th grade teachers who have 72 students in both sections of 7th grade (7A and 7B). Certain classes in IPB increased greatly due to taking in students from Port-au-Prince. We know God is at work and doing big things here in Haiti! #HAFF #Haiti #IBP #schoollife
Did you know that in the US, 85% of the people who become Christians do so between the ages of 4 and 14? Reaching children for Christ is imperative. Our school in Haiti, IPB is a crucial ministry to assure certain youth become Christians. We are looking for an Education Director who can develop and teach ELL lessons, aid in teacher selection and development, and oversee our work-study program. We provide on campus housing! If you're interested in this position or learning more, please look at the job opportunities at https://www.haff.org/jobs Prayerfully consider if God can use you in Haiti or if He has placed people in your life who may be used in Haiti! #HAFF #Haiti #IBP #ELL #Kingdomwork
Carla recently began teaching an English conversation class for 8th graders who want to come over the vacation twice a week and perhaps after school once a week. When beginning new endeavors like this, we are never sure what the response will be. We were all surprised when 28 students showed up the first day, and a solid 15 returned the second time! Speaking English gives our students a huge leg up for jobs when they graduate high school and also for entrance into university. Please pray for continued interest and discipline by our students to learn English well and also for gospel opportunities through this conversation class! #HAFF #Haiti #IPB #ELL #Kingdomwork
While New Years in the US is a time to look forward and make resolutions, for Haitian Christians it is a time to look back through the year for how the hand of God sustained them. One HAFF employee shared how God keeps sparing his family in the Dominican Republic from the current wave of severe persecution. Several local churches had New Year’s Eve worship services, reminiscent of US Thanksgiving, sharing pumpkin soup, bread and coffee at midnight.
It's Christmas Eve, and now, more than any other time of year, is about giving, even when it's hard, because God demonstrated this kind of love in the form of His Son. Learn how God is calling HAFF to love especially hard this season and how you can help us: https://wix.to/p5lbxwh #DisplacedFamilies #HolidayGiving #HAFF #Haiti #IPB
"The nations will put their hope in him" (Mt 12:21) HAFF’s Evangelistic Film Director, Joesse Accillien, will be taking the “Life of Jesus” film to a small Baptist church tonight in Eide, a rural community 3 miles from HAFF. Films are rare so they provide an exciting reason to invite friends to church. Many churches act out a nativity play on the 24th or 25th. Christmas in Haiti is largely celebrated only as a religious holiday since the biggest commercial and secular holiday is Independence Day celebrated on January 1 and 2.
We are HAFF Missionaries Colin and Carla Wilson praying your holidays will have times for intimate reflection with Christ about his call on your lives. Both the 24th and 25th are paid holidays for our staff and we are enjoying some down time, too. We put together this impromptu tropical Christmas Eve lunch with canned chili, fresh boiled potatoes, carrot salad with dried cranberries and dried mango. Dessert was packaged sugar cookies freshly baked with peppermint oil.
